The Holy Trinity: Post 1: Who is Jesus?

A large wooden cross stands on a rocky hilltop against a dramatic sunset sky.

Who is Jesus?

A holy night

A star in the sky

An angel appears

A Shepherd’s cry

A virgin mother

A seed to sew

A faithful Father

A manger laid low

A Baby born

An event divine

A wiseman bows

A Spirit shines

A prophecy filled

A shout from above

A heavenly host

An act of love

A voice from the wilderness

A spirit washed new

A white dove appears

A ministry grew

A table and chairs

A bread and a wine

A covenant is formed

A branch and the Vine

A betrayal within

A conviction is made

A disciple refutes

A falling away

A counsel is formed

A cross is laid

A mockery occurs

A whip and a blade

A journey begins

A top of a hill

A nail and a hand

A hammer and will

A flow of blood

A Crown of Thorns

A public display

A mother who mourns

A silent grief

A veil is torn

A separation no more

A soul restored

A King made low

A people made whole

A death filled blow

A serpent destroyed

A body, a tomb

A rock in place

A resurrection occurs

A revelation of grace

A key to the Gate

An open Door

A rebirth of faith

A Church is formed

A hope that is

A promise to return

A mission is charged

A heart that burns

A Glory that shines

A Lamp on a hill

A call from Heaven

A surrendering of will

Who is Jesus?

He is called by many names throughout time, generations, history, and cultures. Emmanuel, God with Us, Messiah, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Alpha, Omega, Beginning and End, Lamb of God, Son of God, Son of Man, Rabbi, the Vine, the Door, the Gate, the Ladder, the Word, Friend, Son, and Brother. And He is all of them and more.

The world loves to tell us who Jesus is. The world tells us that Jesus was no more than a man, a prophet, a great teacher, a renegade, or a myth. The world tells us that the Word is just stories, embellished history, copied from other sacred texts, borrowed from other cultures throughout time and changed through generations.

But let me tell you who Jesus is

Jesus is the Word that brought forth the stars, the sun, the moon, the waters, the land, the creatures, and man. Jesus is the promise made to the serpent in the garden when God declared that the serpent would bruise his heel, and He would crush his head. Jesus is the hope of generations from Adam to Mary, and now, to us all. Jesus is the prophecy of a shepherd that would come to heal and renew all people from the bondage of death, and Jesus is the prophecy of the reigning King still to come. From “In the Beginning…” to “Yes, I am coming soon,” from cover to cover of the Holy Scriptures, Jesus is interwoven into the tapestry of every move of God, every divine appointment, every redemptive act, every prophetic word spoken, until He, the Word, became flesh and changed everything. Jesus flips the paradigm of this world on its head, and He ushers in the upside-down Kingdom where the first is last and the meek inherit the earth. Jesus is a mighty Savior, a redeemer of sin, a restoration of Spirit, a bridge to the Father, and a healer of hurt. Jesus severs generational curses, frees you from bondage, and renews your mind. Jesus is, Jesus was, and Jesus will always be.

But let me tell you what Jesus did

Jesus multiplies the provisions, divides the flock, teaches the truth, heals the sick, challenges the pharisees, empowers the disciples, and fulfills scripture.

Jesus commands the wind, calms the storms, walks on water, and wakes the dead. Jesus dangles the keys to death at the gates of hell and declares that they will no longer prevail against the creation he has made.

But let me tell you what Jesus does

Jesus consoles the broken hearted, encourages the downcast, convicts the prideful, strengthens the weak, meets with the searching, saves the lost, directs the paths of believers, guards the hearts, the minds, the bodies, the souls, and the spirits of those who choose Him. He is the lifter of heads, the giver of grace, the provider of mercy, the teacher of truth, and builder of faith. He clothes you in armor, the helmet of salvation, the shoes of peace, the breast plate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit. He directs your steps, protects you through valleys of the shadow of death, leads you by still waters, and prepares a meal for you in the presence of your enemies. He humbles you and exalts you. He gives and takes away. He opens and closes doors. He blesses and curses. He lights up the darkness, and he burns without burning. He shapes, he molds, he prunes, and he perfects his people. He cares for His creation as a parent cares for their child.

But let me tell you what Jesus will do

Jesus will come riding on the clouds of justice with the flaming sword of truth to a wicked and violent world filled with people who are greatly deceived by the evil one. When he comes, all eyes will see, all ears will hear, all knees will bow and all tongues will confess that Jesus is King. That He is who He says He is. He will be the judge of the wicked, the unrighteous, and the unholy who sought to deceive, reject, deny, and exploit his identity as Messiah. He will come for retribution of the persecuted saints, for the desecration of his Holy temple, for the Beast who sets his throne upon this earth and attempts to thwart the will of God Most High. He will break seals, blow trumpets, command Heaven’s army, and defeat the serpent of old, for all time.

Jesus will also bring heaven to earth, set up his throne among men, and dwell with His creation. He will wipe every tear, right every wrong, and restore every heart who chooses Him. He will deliver his Bride from the clutch of the enemy, and in His kingdom, there will be peace, there will be joy, there will be righteousness, there will be life and life more abundant. There will be communion among the elect, the elders, and the saints. The Spirit of God will fill the earth and all of creation will shout “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty. The One who was, who is and is to come.”

But let me tell you who Jesus says you are

You are a child of the God Most High, the righteousness of Christ, and an inheritor of His kingdom. Before He knit you together in your mother’s womb, He knew you. He intimately and meticulously created each and every part of you unique and perfect. He has great plans for you, to prosper you and not to harm you. He joyfully looks down upon you with pride, with love, with joy, and with gladness. You are his ambassador, a reflector of His image and His character. You are the visibleness of an invisible God.

He says those who rest in the shadows of the almighty will be safe beneath His wings. He says that He will command angels to encamp about you and to keep you safe in the secret places of the Most High. You are valuable, precious, and irreplaceable to the God in heaven. You were worth the highest price, the precious blood of His only son. He purchased to remove the barrier between us and Him. You are His, and He is yours.

I am a Christ follower, and I need Jesus every day. I mess up, get off track, and have to ask for His forgiveness often. However, I love Jesus and want to cultivate a lasting and intimate relationship with Him. I want to connect others to Him by sharing my story and what God has done for me. Outside of my relationship with God, I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 11 years this year. We have two precious kids. We have a girl and a boy. Both of which are miracle babies. I am a high school teacher and have been teaching for 9 years. I teach 10th Literature and Composition both on-level and Honors.
